Tim will be playing The Circle as himself. He describes himself as a cross between “Santa and Mrs Doubtfire”.
Tim has lived a colourful life: he was a monk, until being kicked out of the monastery when he was offered a place at Oxford University; he was a theatre designer and director; and he was a teacher in Greece, while taking on a second job herding 100 goats. He was selected to run for parliament as a UKIP candidate in the 2015 election until resigning when the party became embroiled in a racism row. He says his reason for joining UKIP was to expose them, and he voted Remain in the EU referendum.
Motivation for entering The Circle: As an accomplished academic Tim wants to enter The Circle and be educated on youth culture. He is inspired by young people and wants to learn from them. Although he is active on social media he doesn’t really know how to navigate it. He is hoping The Circle will change this.
Strategy: Tim really wants to get involved in the game; he wants to be the player everyone comes to confide in and asks for advice. Tim’s profile will be pictures of him in his colourful blazers and dickie bows ties, but he suspects that with his unusual life story and idiosyncratic dress sense the other players might think that he is a catfish.
